EZ No Slight Cards Across
Effect: A spectator is asked to deal 6 cards onto the magician’s hand. A second spectator is asked to select one of the 6 cards, sign the face of the card and mix the cards. The spectator counts the 6 cards onto the magician’s hand to prove there are 6 cards. The magician places the 6 cards in an envelope, labeled “A.” The spectator (or a different spectator) is given the deck of cards and asked to deal 6 additional cards onto the magician’s hand. These 6 cards are placed in an envelope, labeled B.
The magician states that the signed chosen card has invisibly passed from envelope A to envelope B. The spectator opens envelope A and counts the cards onto the magician’s hand to show there are now only five cards. The spectator opens envelope B and counts the cards on the magician’s hand to show there are now 7 cards. The magician removes and shows that the signed chosen card is among the 7 cards from envelope B.
Needed:
- Regular deck of cards
- 2 security type envelopes (3-5/8 in x 6-1/5 in) marked A and B (See Fig. 1)
- Marking pen
Set up:
- In envelope A place 5 cards
- In envelope B place 1 card
- Place the envelopes in your pocket or on your table
Procedure:
- Give a deck of cards to a spectator #1 to shuffle the deck. Have the spectator deal 6 cards onto your right hand: Counting the cards out loud. Give the spectator the 6 cards and take back the deck with your right hand.
- Have a second spectator select one of the 6 cards from the first spectator. Give the spectator a marking pen to sign the face of the chosen card. As the spectator signs the card, place envelope A on top of the deck in your right-hand Fig. 1.
- Have the signed chosen card returned to the 5 cards being held by the first spectator and have them mixed.
- Have the first spectator count the 6 cards again, onto your left hand, out loud to prove there are 6 cards.
- Pretend to place the 6 cards into envelope A, but instead leave the cards on top of the envelope. Fig 2.
- Pull envelope A from your hand, leaving the 6 cards on top of the deck. Give the envelope to the spectator to seal and hold. (The illusion is perfect that the 6 cards were placed in the envelope)
- The spectator (or a different spectator) is given the deck of cards (with the original 6 cards on top of the deck) and asked to deal 6 additional cards onto their right hand out loud.
- Put these 6 cards in envelope B and hand them to a spectator to seal.
- At this point, envelope A contains 5 different cards and envelope B contains 6 cards plus the signed chosen card.
- The magician states that the signed chosen card can be invisibly passed from envelope A to envelope B.
- The spectator opens envelope A and counts the cards out loud onto the magician’s hand to show there are now only five cards; a card is missing.
- The spectator opens envelope B and counts the cards out loud on the magician’s hand to show there are now 7 cards.
- The magician fans the 7 cards. Removes and shows the chosen sign card, asking the spectator if that is their card.
